You are made in God’s image. Our calling since Adam has been to reflect the image and attributes of our Creator. He is our Father. We are His sons. We bear His image.
As image bearers, we have been given dominion. We are called to rule, to govern. We are called to subdue, to tame. To bring order to disorder. We have been placed in our garden of life to keep it, work it, guard it (Gen 2:15). This is what men are called to do. This is you. In Christ, this is your calling.
Do you see this calling? Do you believe it is yours?
Since Eden, men have lived corrupted versions of this calling. Adam and Eve ate the apple trying to be like God when they were already made in His image. Cain allowed sin to have dominion over him and killed his brother because he failed to rule his sinful desires (Gen 4:7).
Since the beginning of time men have failed in a million different ways for a million different reasons to live out their God given calling.
Take time today to meditate before the Lord how you are stewarding what He has given you. Come before Him and test how you are governing the gifts and responsibilities He has entrusted to you. Look openly at where you have both succeeded…and failed, knowing nothing separates us from the love of God (Rom 8:37-39). Jesus has given you everything you need to overcome sin. His Spirit gives you power. The old man is dead. The new man is alive in Christ (Rom 6:9-11). Walk in your new identity and walk in your calling.
The Next Question.
– Where in your life right now do you sense God calling you to take dominion, to govern well, to bring order to chaos?
– What is one area of responsibility you’ve been avoiding, and what would change if you stepped into it as an image bearer of Christ?
– How can you begin today to reflect God’s image more fully through the way you exercise authority and stewardship in your home, church, work, and community?
