And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. John 14:16-17
The Lord has been working to give me clearer insight into how He is leading me to walk in the Spirit. I mean specifically in the Holy Spirit. God’s Spirit who is working in me, through me, and around me. It is refreshing. He is also at work in you.
Many of us are unaware of or have forgotten the life-giving role the Holy Spirit plays in our lives. We cry out to the Father, we seek forgiveness, relationship, and to know Jesus, but often we neglect the blessed Holy Spirit who dwells within every believer united with Christ and is active and powerful in the world in which we live.
He does not indwell us passively. He is actively at work in us and around us. He is our Helper, Comforter, Teacher, Guide, Intercessor. He is the Source of all spiritual power, transformation and creation. He is all that scripture says He is. Since we are united with Christ, He is our life and He gives us life.
He is always directing, prompting, and guiding us as we listen and follow. He moves in our life in both quiet and profound ways. We will wake up to these truths as we begin to pay greater attention and notice His moving. Let’s become more aware and acknowledge and seek to walk into a greater noticing of Him every day.
Scripture also warns us of the other side. We are instructed not to grieve (Eph 4:30), quench (1 Th 5:19), resist (Acts 7:51), or neglect the gifts He gives (1 Tim 4:14). We need to reorient and anchor ourselves to this ever-present reality. Let’s focus on listening to His voice and yielding to His leading instead of ignoring Him or working against Him. This is a life changing truth. Start paying greater attention and start noticing the Spirit’s movement in both your heart and in people around you. Make it your focus. Let’s begin to notice Him.
